· · · Homura Tales · No.9 — Dappled Light on a Summer Afternoon On the terrace of an old Western-style house, a wind chime rings softly. In the shade of the garden, a well-maintained, vintage brass grinder sits waiting. An elderly man takes a handful of roasted beans in his palm and begins to turn the handle with deliberate care. The rhythmic, grinding sound dominates the afternoon, as the persistent drone of cicadas fades into the distance. The freshly ground beans dance like fine dust in the intense summer sunlight. As he pours hot water, the rising steam carries the aroma of coffee, intertwined with a faint, earthy scent. He lifts his cup, watching the sunlight shimmer across the garden. The sound of ice clinking against glass becomes the only language required to soothe the boisterous summer day. Watching the amber liquid, he exhales slowly. With every sip, the dappled shadows at his feet seem to sway, and the world dissolves into a quiet, graceful stillness.
