The story
Tsubame and Sanjo, two neighbouring towns in Niigata, have worked metal for about four hundred years: first nails for the carpenters of Edo, then pipes, cutlery and copperware. Their metalworkers are known for tsuchime, the dimpled finish the Japanese call the hammer's eye.
Copper carries cold quickly, so a drink poured into it feels cold in the hand almost at once. The inside is lined with tin.
Living with it
For cold beer, water or iced tea at the end of the day. A good present for the person who already has everything, because they almost certainly do not have this.
The outside has a clear protective coat, so it keeps its colour: wash by hand with a soft sponge, no scourers or polish, and dry straight away.
• Pure copper body, tin-lined inside, brass handle • About 11.5 × 8 cm, 8 cm tall, 140 g • 360 ml • Hand wash only • New, ordered from the maker for you: ships in 2–3 weeks • Made in Japan
