Kubi-furi Tora Papier-mâché Tiger
This large Kubi-furi Tora is a traditional Japanese papier-mâché tiger that turns its head, bringing a vibrant, charismatic presence to your living space. Handcrafted using traditional techniques, this folk toy is known for its charming expression and bold, distinctive coloring. The tiger, or Tora, has been a central motif in Japanese folklore for centuries, serving as a powerful guardian against misfortune and illness. The Kubi-furi Tora, or nodding tiger, is a classic example of local folk art—a piece intended to offer protection and vitality to a household. Its movable head is designed to respond to the slightest movement of air, creating an impression of life and alertness that makes it a lively companion on a shelf or display table. Living with this tiger means inviting a classic piece of Japanese craft tradition into your home. It acts as a focal point that rewards a closer look, revealing the care and skill put into its hand-painted details. Packed by hand and sent directly from our studio in Fukuoka, Japan. Each shipment is fully tracked to ensure it reaches you securely. Each piece is a single, unique object; once this tiger finds its home, there is not another.
