· · · Homura Tales · No.7 — Mekong Breeze and Ripened Cacao In the Mekong Delta, a humid breeze sways the palm fronds under the afternoon sun. The light reflecting off the river is blindingly white, as if the world were dissolving into it. In the shade by the shore, I split open a cacao pod. Inside the hardened shell, the seeds nestle within translucent, milky pulp. The sweet, tart scent lingers on my fingertips, stirring distant memories. Across the water, children laugh as they splash in the mud. I pause and taste a piece of the pulp; its creamy sweetness dances on my tongue before slipping away. Here, disconnected from the frantic pace of the world, the cacao beans soak up the sun, waiting quietly to mature. On this summer day, free from the ticking of a clock, only the sound of the wind and the gentle murmuring river witness my labor.
