· · · Homura Tales · No.6 — White Sands and Sea Breezes The old school library overlooking the Seto Inland Sea is filled with the scent of sun-warmed tatami mats in the early afternoon. Outside the window, the chorus of cicadas swirls in the heat, and the lace curtains ripple like waves in the breeze. I untie a small linen pouch on the corner of my desk. Inside are slices of sun-dried citrus, harvested locally on the island. As I slice them, a sharp, refreshing bitterness releases, mingling with the scent of old paper. I float one slice in a glass of iced barley tea and stir it gently with a silver spoon. The coolness slides down my throat, leaving a lingering sweetness of the fruit. In the distance, a fisherman casts his line along the breakwater. A day with nothing to do melts slowly into the amber light. On the windowsill, a piece of sea glass, smoothed by the salt spray, catches the light in silence.
