· · · Homura Tales · No.10 — The Sound of Ice The air holds the humid promise of June, distinct from the lingering chill of a northern spring. On the weathered wooden veranda, I pour chilled sparkling water into a glass, swirling in a splash of amber syrup. Beside me, dried plum preserves from last autumn catch the sunlight, glowing like translucent gems. The delicate chime of ice hitting glass dissolves into the quietude. With a silver spoon, I stir, and the tartness of the fruit ripples through the effervescent bubbles. In the distance, a neighbor's dog lets out a lazy yawn. There is no urgency here, only the gentle threshold of afternoon. Sunlight filters through the leaves, casting still, mosaic patterns upon the floorboards. The cool liquid traces a crisp line down my throat. Watching the deep green of early summer, I savor a single piece of fruit, letting the stillness of the light wash over me.
